About the Ghana Study Tour: Sankofa Narratives

Embark on the Sankofa Narratives, a transformative 14-day digital storytelling and STEAM-focused journey through Ghana, West Africa. This program offers a unique opportunity to explore the local language, history, and community through group tours, cultural activities, and hands-on volunteer projects. By participating, you will gain a fresh perspective on Africa as a vibrant, cosmopolitan region with a rich history bridging the past to create a brighter future.

The Journey

Your experience begins with virtual pre-departure orientations designed to prepare you for life overseas. These sessions focus on:

  • Preparation: Setting expectations and understanding life in West Africa.

  • Digital Storytelling: Learning how to document your journey through our Digital Storytelling Lab, connecting your Baltimore roots to Ghanaian heritage.

  • The Sankofa Project: Developing a two-part capstone project exploring Ghana both before your departure and after your return.

Professional Outcomes

This tour is an investment in your future. Participants will earn 20 Service Learning Experience (SLE) credits, receive an official Certificate of Completion, and attend workshops on translating international travel into powerful assets for college and career resumes.

DATE: January and June Dates

EBI offers a scholarship range between 10% to 50% to cover program fees

Example of Ghana Trip Itinerary

This is just a guide, and it can change based on the circumstance in Ghana upon arrival.

Please know that this itinerary can be changed based on students' survey for improvement and availability of resources.  An official itinerary will be emailed to our explorers two to three weeks before departure. 

Application Process:


It’s easy! Potential travelers will fill out our application form, including contact information, demographics, passport information, dietary restrictions, allergies (food, pets, or other), and medical conditions that may affect travel. Submit your deposit. Travelers are briefed on traveling conditions, cultural etiquette, embassy information in an emergency, and other necessary travel information.

The Cultural Immersion program is going to be held in Ghana, West Africa
Participants are asked to meet at the host country on the day agreed upon by everyone.  Exceptions are reviewed on an individual basis
This program is open to high school and college students.

Siblings will be granted a $150 discount on their fees.

Deposits are non-refundable. However, full refunds (excluding the deposit) will be provided if the trip is cancelled at least three months prior to the departure date.

In the unlikely event that EBI cancels the trip due to circumstances beyond our control, all fees will be fully refunded.

All payments much be received on or before two month of program start date.
Yes, but you will be responsible for yourself on those days that do not fall on our program dates.
