About Our Study Tour

Join us for an unforgettable 12-day cultural immersion program in Ghana, West Africa. Expanding Boundaries Ghana offers a unique opportunity to develop your understanding of the local language, history, and community through group tours, cultural activities, volunteer projects, and Twi language lessons. Participating in this program gives you a fresh perspective on Africa as a cosmopolitan region with a rich history and culture. Our program is founded on preserving the past to create a brighter future. Don't miss out on this life-changing experience!

Our Journey begins on Zoom (virtual meetings), with orientations to prepare you to embark on an Africa Study Abroad. Oreientations will focus on life overseas, expectations, how to document your journey, setting expectations for yourself and a capstone project on Ghana before leaving and Ghana after your return.

Eligibility

This study abroad is open to students in high school and college for our summer program and college only for our January program. Parents and Educators are welcome to join us.

Example of Ghana Trip Itinerary

This is just a guide, and it can change based on the circumstance in Ghana upon arrival.

Day 1.

Arrival, Airport Pick-up & Check-Inn.

Relaxing time at your hotel. 

Welcome to Ghana orientation.


Day 2.

Accra City Tour & A Visit to Jamestown Gbekebii Foundation.

9:00am visit W.E.B. Du Bois Center, take a guided tour of the museum and listen

to history of the Father of Modern Pan-Africanism.

Continue to the Independence Square, purposely built to commenmorate Ghana's independence.

Stop at Makola Market, Accra's largest open market overflowed with goods,

people, scents and sounds to see how local Ghanaian market operates.

Continue to Jamestown, a fishing community as well as one of the historic old towns of Accra.

Take a guided tour of its interesting sight and learn new things.

Stop at non profit community day school and spend some times with the chilrdren.

Visit National Museum showcasing Ghana culture and heritage.

Overnight at Ampomaah Tourist Hotel.


Day 3. Visit to local Senior High School & Orphanage Home.

8:30am visit a local senior high school to see how high school system work here in Ghana.

Spend time with children at an orphanage home

Bring some needed items like food, clothing, learning materials or cash to donate to support their well being.


Day 4. Drumming & Dance & Twi Lessons.
Take a 2 hours cultural drumming & dance lesson after breakfast.
Rehearse them well with an experience drumming and dance instructors.
Ask any question you may have while the lesson is in section.
Enjoy yourselves with learning some basic twi vocabularies.

Day 5. USA & Ghanaian Students Socialization & Cultural Perfomance Day.
After breakfast, travel north-east of Kumasi to Ejura-Sekyeredumase.
Visit the local host school in Ejura.
Enjoy an Ashanti drumming & dancing performances.
Get involved with the dance and learn some new cultural dance moves.


Day 6. Prempeh II Jubilee Museum, Okomfo Anokye Sword Site & Manhyia Palace.
9:30am visit to the National Cultural Center a few meters away from the Kejetia market.
Tour Prempeh II Jubilee Museum, which provides a fascinating collection of Ashanti history and treasures.
Visit the Okomfo Anokye Sword Site to make a sightseeing of the sword
Okomfo Anokye buried into the ground about 300 years ago,
exact place where Okomfo Anokye conjured the Golden stool
unto the laps of king Osei tutu I, founder of Ashanti Kingdom.
Continue to Manhyia Palace, an official seat and recidence of the Asantehene.
Learn about the history of the Ashanti Kingdom including the royal lineage,
rituals and the struggles with the British forces in the colonial days.

Day 7. Assin Manso Ancestral Slave River Site & Drumming & Dance Lessons.
8:30am depart Kumasi to Cape Coast.
Visit Assin Manso Ancestral Slave River Site
to see where slave captives were made to take their last bath before transported to the America's.
Enjoy some coastal drumming and dance lessons in the evening.


Day 8. Canopy-Walkway At Kakum National Park, Elmina Castle & Cape Coast Castle.
Visit Kakum National Park, a tropical rainforest of an area of about,
375 square kilometres notable for nature and wildlife.
Hike about 40 minutes to do the Canopy Walkway suspended between 11-40 meters high above sea level and 350 meters long.
Experience nature and the beautiful view of the forest in a secured series of nets and wires.
Continue to Elmina Castle, an important stop destinations during the infamous Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade.
And Cape Coast Castle, one of the large commercial forts built on the Gold Coast of West Africa
by European traders well known for the infamous Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade.

Day 9. A Visit To A Local School & Twi Lessons.
Visit a community school where children are enrol to learn some vocational skills.
Spend some good time out there interacting with the students and as well make new friends.
Continiue with your Twi learning skills.


Day 10. Drive Day to Accra & Departure. Aproximately 3 Hours Drive!
Drive back to Accra after breakfast.
Say bye bye to your new made friends and return back soon.
Drop off at Kotoka International Airport.

It’s easy! Potential travelers will fill out our application form, including contact information, demographics, passport information, dietary restrictions, allergies (food, pets, or other), and medical conditions that may affect travel. Submit your deposit. Travelers are briefed on traveling conditions, cultural etiquette, embassy information in an emergency, and other necessary travel information.

The Cultural Immersion program is going to be held in Ghana, West Africa
Participants are asked to meet at the host country on the day agreed upon by everyone.  Exceptions are reviewed on an individual basis
This program is open to high school and college students.  Our January program is only open to College students. Parents and educators are welcome to join.
