Hello, I’m Leticia Ababio Nortey, the proud founder of Expanding Boundaries International (EBI). My journey to establishing EBI is a story of transformation, inspiration, and a deep-seated desire to empower youth through international travel and cross-cultural experiences.

In 2008, my life took an unexpected turn when I became a Gilman International Scholar, leading me on a path of discovery from my home in America to the bustling city of Beijing, China. It was an experience that would shape my worldview and my life’s mission.

When applying for the scholarship, I was asked how I would give back to my community upon my return. It seemed like a simple task then - I would share my experiences. However, the impact of my journey was so profound that upon returning, words failed me. I was speechless for over a month, unable to articulate the depth of my transformation.

As I slowly shared my experiences, I discovered a startling truth. Many people were amazed by my journey but believed that such opportunities were beyond their reach due to societal barriers and self-imposed limitations. This realization ignited a fire within me, a burning desire to break these mental embargoes and empower others with the knowledge that they too could explore the world, learn from different cultures, and grow both personally and academically.

Inspired by my transformative experience in China, I founded Expanding Boundaries International. Our mission at EBI is to foster global citizens equipped to navigate an increasingly interconnected world by empowering youth through international travel. We expose young minds to different cultures, fight misinformation, and build community through arts and dialogue.

As the founder of EBI, I am deeply committed to enhancing cultural understanding, fostering global citizenship, fighting misinformation, and building community. I believe in the transformative power of cross-cultural experiences. My background in cyber security and travel has played a significant role in shaping EBI. In cybersecurity, I learned the importance of navigating unfamiliar terrains, solving complex problems, and staying resilient amidst challenges. These skills have been invaluable in steering EBI through various obstacles and towards success.

The lessons we've learned from the communities we serve have also been instrumental in shaping our programs. We've listened to their needs, their aspirations, and their fears. We've tailored our programs to address these needs, inspire these aspirations, and alleviate these fears. Through initiatives like the Cross-Cultural Exploration Tour, STEAM Exchange, Passport Scholarship, and Study Abroad programs, we strive to debunk myths, fight misinformation, and provide youth with the confidence and resources to explore the world while getting them ready for the workforce.
